I apologize for the short notice: The Desert Eagles Model Airplane Flying Club in Idaho Falls, ID is having an ALES contest Saturday August 12, 2017.
The DEMAFC August 2017 ALES Contest rules will be as stated in the 2013-2016 AMA RCSoaring rule book for Event 463 with a few exceptions. This is our second year for this event; we are still learning at this point and this more of a fun fly event and a bit less of a contest; consequently no trophies will be awarded.

In simple, abbreviated terms, this event will incorporate 3 flights per entrant. Each flight will have a 10 second launch window, announced verbally (we don’t yet have a buzzer). Launch will be by hand with a climb to 200 M or 30 seconds maximum. There will be a precision spot landing required 10 minutes after launching. Scoring will be based nominally as described in the above AMA RCSoaring rule book.

The major exception to the AMA rules is that Altitude Limiters are recommended, but ARE NOT REQUIRED. Each entrant will have an assistant helping manage/account for flight times.
Scoring will depend extensively on the honor system. Aircraft without altitude limiters which appear to climb significantly higher than 200 M in 30 seconds will have reduced climb times assigned for subsequent flights at the discretion of the Contest Director.

There will be a pilots meeting at 10:00 a.m. August 12, 2017 at the DEMAFC flying field. The first round of flights will be at about 10:30 a.m. This is late enough in the day for thermal development to have started, but probably early enough for there to be significant variation in thermal strength during the contest. Folding chairs, sunscreen, water and hats are recommended. There is no electricity available at the field, but fortunately there is an outhouse! The gate to the field should be unlocked by about 9:00 a.m.
